What a colorful world we live in!

With all of the color choices out there in the world, how is a girl to choose what colors to use when decorating a room?  Well, fret no more my friends!  It can be as easy as looking at your wardrobe!  What color combinations do you like to wear? What appeals to you when you look at fashion magazines?  Here are some examples of how to take decorating ideas right from your own clothes!

Layers

One of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to add interest and depth to a room is to layer rugs on top of rugs or placing a rug on carpet.  What!?  You can do that?  Absolutely!  It's ingenious! If you have a large room and you cannot afford to purchase the 9X11 or 8X10 beautiful persian rug that you actually need,  do not buy the smaller one and hope that it looks good enough.  It does not! Proportion is everything when making a room beautiful!

Examples of rugs that are too small:

So what can you do?  Layer these beautiful rugs on top of a larger, less expensive sisal or jute rug!  So easy, yet not many people think to do it.  The result is beautiful and interesting:

If you have wall to wall carpet and just want to add interest and color, you can use a rug to do that too:

It does not have to cost a fortune to make your house beautiful - just a little imagination!

What Clutter?

If you are anything like me, you want your house to be neat and tidy all the time, but it is just so hard to make that happen - especially if you have kids!

And, admittedly, even if I didn't have kids my house would not be neat and tidy all the time. I am one of those people who have to keep inviting people over in order to keep myself motivated to clean up!  It sure is easier to keep your house neat when you have beautiful places to put things.  With the beginning of  a new year, retailers have put a plethora of new storage options in the stores for us - and many of them are very affordable!  Here are some that have caught my eye:

I love this bin from the Container Store and it's only $9.99!

These silver mesh bins are also from the Container Store and adds a nice industrial look:

This plastic containers from Target are adorable and great to store small items in :

I also found these zig zag bins at our local Target, but I do not see them online:

This is a really cool place to keep extra printer paper, envelops, stationary, etc.  It can be found at overstock.com

I love these beautiful baskets from West Elm:

Happy organizing!

Trunks - and not the kind on an elephant!

You get your PBteen catalog in the mail, open it up, and see trunks everywhere!  In boys rooms, in the lounge area, in the girls rooms - such a versatile piece!

So, sure, you can get online and order one of these from PBteen for $199.  Or, you can save some cash and go check out what's at your local antique mall or thrift store.  I see them all the time!  That is exactly where I found this one for little G's room - for $15 bucks baby!

Now, is the outside a little rusted?  Yes!  But I really like the old, vintage look of it.  The inside is immaculate and now holds summer clothes.  I love how it looks in the room and it gives me great storage.  Oh, and the wire basket on top of the trunk?  That came from the same anique mall for $7!  I did have to paint it because it was orange, but I already had the paint from the rolling cart project.  That was one successful treasure hunting day!
